Westfield North Bridge Development
The R.M. Chin & Associates Grand Pier Center, a proposed mixed-use development contained in the City Front Center, bounded by Grand Avenue, Columbus Drive, Illinois Street and St. Clair Street, was purchased by Lehman Brothers of New York in 2003. In 2005, the Grand Pier Center Development was sold to Centrum Properties of Chicago and renamed City Front Plaza.
The development includes a Dominick's grocery store (which opened in March 2006) and an eight-story parking garage. The project includes the extension of Upper Illinois Street to the parking garage. The construction of the Fairbanks at City Front Plaza, a condominium building to be constructed over the Dominick's and the parking garage, started in December 2005, with initial occupancy in August 2006. This is the first of three towers for this development.
