T.Y. Lin International provided design and construction administration services for the airside portion of the $3.0 Billion North Terminal Development Program at Miami International Airport. The North Terminal is a 50 contact gate facility, and serves as the Latin American and Caribbean hub for American Airlines and American Eagle.

Project Highlights:

  • Multi-Billion Dollar "Mega" Project
  • New Aircraft Parking Apron Design
  • Fueling System Design
  • Pre-Conditioned Air and 400 Hz System Design
  • Development of Project Packaging Plan
  • Detailed Phasing Plans
  • Environmental Compliance Monitoring

The services provided by the firm included planning, design, construction administration, and construction inspection for the new concrete apron and asphalt taxi lanes, passenger loading bridges, hydrant fueling, primary utility corridors (water, sewer, fire protection, electric and communications), storm water management systems, contamination cleanup, airfield lighting, and pavement markings. The airside work was divided into ten separate construction packages and was phased to support the overall development program while maintaining airline operations immediately adjacent to the construction. The work was completed in the midst of the American Airlines hub operation at Miami by reconfiguring existing terminal areas and parking aprons, which required detailed maintenance of traffic and safety plans in close cooperation with the airport and airlines operations staff.
