T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), as part of a team, provided structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP), and fire protection engineering services and construction support services for the renovation of Faith Wing, a 1950’s section of the main administrative building of the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) Facility at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama.
The project was managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, for the CDP, which is a subgroup of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is itself a subgroup of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The CDP is the designated federal training center engaged in preparing emergency first responders, emergency management officials, and state and local community leaders and managers to combat terrorism.
The project included additions for a new set of stairs, a new entry way, and a new elevator, as well as upgrades to the structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout the building. Since more than half of the building was being renovated, wind and seismic analysis and upgrades were required by code. Shear walls were added from foundation to roof throughout the building and were supported by micro-piles.
The TYLI team prepared all design and construction documentation for the complex project, including:
- Surveys of new and existing buildings
- Utility infrastructure design
- Local utility approval
- Plumbing design
- HVAC design
- Electrical design
- Structural design
- Fire Safety and Fire Alarm Design
- Site Lighting, Security, and Electrical Design
- Construction Support Services
