The Port of San Francisco and the City Recreation and Parks Department set aside funds for the design of Pier 7 to be used for public access and recreation. Originally built to handle cargo, the pier was damaged by fire in 1973.

Project Highlights:

  • Timber deck

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) conducted a survey of the existing pier and investigated the structural safety for continued usage for ROMA Design Group. Cost considerations led to a recommendation for the construction of a new pier.

TYLI engineers provided conceptual designs and construction documents for a new timber deck on concrete bents. TYLI also supplied construction support services, which included reviewing shop drawings, site inspections, responding to contractors' questions and requests for information and assisting in the permitting process.
