I-35 NEX

TYLin is part of the Alamo NEX Construction Team that was awarded a design-build contract for the Interstate 35 Northeast Expansion (I-35 NEX) Central project in San Antonio, Texas.

Working for the Texas Department of Transportation, the Alamo NEX Construction Team is led by Ferrovial Construction U.S. and Webber LLC. I-35 is a main artery for travel and international commerce in Texas. The purpose of the I-35 NEX project is to improve safety, mobility, manage vehicle congestion, and promote the efficient use of existing transportation facilities while minimizing impacts to the natural and built environment.

Improvements will include elevated managed lanes between the existing main lanes and frontage roads, four additional connector bridges at the I-35/I-410 North interchange, multiple new direct connector and transitioning bridges at the I-35/Loop 1604 interchange, and reconstruction or widening of the Loop 1604 general purpose lanes and bridges from Nacogdoches Road to east of Biltmore Lakes.

TYLin’s role is Engineer of Record for 40% of the project, the I-35 managed lanes, and the 410 North and I-35/410 North Interchange. Scope of work includes additional I-35 elevated lanes in each direction, two general purpose and one high-occupancy vehicle (HOV).

The I-35 elevated lanes will be continued south of the I-410 North interchange to connect to the future I-35 NEX South project and will connect to the I-410 North main lanes for operational improvements at I-410 North.

TYLin’s segment has more than 400 spans of bridge construction and seven miles of freeway, ramps, cross street intersections, and frontage roads improvements.

Project Highlights:

  • Work will pass through the Texas cities of San Antonio, Live Oak, Selma, and Schertz in Bexar and Guadalupe counties.
