T.Y. Lin International Hires Michael Brüning, P.E., as Drainage Engineering Lead for Southern California Market

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Michael Brüning, P.E., has joined the firm as Drainage Engineering Lead for the Southern California market. Based in TYLI’s San Diego office, Brüning will oversee technical design and production for a variety of publicly funded transportation and rail design projects in Southern California and throughout the firm’s West Region.

Brüning joins TYLI with over 25 years of experience in civil engineering and specializes in hydrology and hydraulics in the Arizona and California markets. He has provided project management and technical support on a wide range of projects, including roadway widenings and median improvements, neighborhood improvements, hydraulic and hydrology studies, utility coordination, solar field drainage and access design, design review and code compliance, and channel improvements conforming to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requirements.

“Michael comes to T.Y. Lin International with well-honed leadership skills and experience in freeway, roadway, and rail drainage design,” said Clark Fernon, P.E., TYLI Vice President “He is a key player in our plans to establish a new regional drainage engineering team. I also consider Michael a great asset when it comes to serving our Surface Transportation and Rail and Transit clients throughout the West Region.”

Among his past projects in California, Brüning served as Drainage Task Lead Designer for the final design and construction support for the reconfiguration of the I-15/Railroad Canyon Road Interchange in Lake Elsinore. He was also Lead Drainage Engineer for the I-805 North High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV)/Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Design-Build project in San Diego County. Additionally, he served as Drainage Task Manager for a design-build project in Central Valley, California, comprising the construction of 65 miles of high-speed rail, including all rail embankments, more than 40 bridge structures, drainage culverts, and numerous roadway interchanges.

Brüning earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, California, Utah, and Colorado.
