The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Maine awarded Reed & Reed contractors a Build Maine Award in the Bridge division at a ceremony held on April 11, 2013. T.Y. Lin International and Reed & Reed were teamed on this design/build bridge replacement project which opened to the public in June 2012.

The new $65 million bridge is a precast, segmental concrete structure with two 12 ft. wide travel lanes in each direction as well as a 12 ft. wide bicycle/pedestrian walkway separated from traffic. It is designed to safely carry motorists, bikers and pedestrians across the Fore River for the next 100 years as well as improve traffic flow through a critical Portland intersection. The project also included the removal of the old bridge.

The Build Maine Awards are presented each year in conjunction with the annual Construction Expo of Maine. Contractors submit their projects in various building categories including highways, bridges, public utilities, industrial and municipal. The winners are selected based on how well they address the following criteria: contribution to the community; innovation in construction techniques; meeting the challenge of a difficult job; environmental sensitivity; responsiveness to client needs; and workplace safety.
