Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge Wins ACEC California's 2012 Engineering Excellence Award
The American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACEC California) recognized T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) as a 2012 Engineering Excellence Award winner. TYLI won an Honor Award for the recently completed Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, a single cable, self-anchored suspension bridge.
The annual ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards is one of the most respected and acclaimed engineering competitions in the design industry and honors firms who design and achieve exceptional engineering projects.
Project winners, including the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, are being showcased outside the Governor's Office at the State Capitol.
TYLI’s vision for the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge incorporated simple, clean lines that enhance and enable unobstructed, 360 degree views of its beautiful San Diego environs. The $26.8-million Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, at 550 feet, is one of the longest self-anchored, suspension bridges in the world.
The Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge also received Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Best Transportation Project Award and featured in its February 13, 2012 “Best of the Best Projects” issue. The Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge captivated the judges with its “jaw-dropping design,” which was described as "a wonderful work of art." The project also received recognition for achieving 2.8 million hours with no lost-time accidents.
