TYLin designed a new elevated collector-distributor (CD) roadway system connecting Miami International Airport (MIA) to the Miami-Dade Transit Authority’s SR 836 expressway.
Part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) program, the MIC is located adjacent to MIA. The MIC is one of the state's most important transportation hubs, providing intermodal connectivity between various modes of transport.
An intricate network of new roadways and bridges was constructed to enhance connectivity and traffic flow for the MIC program. TYLin's scope of work included providing bridge design, plan preparation, and construction phase services for American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) beam bridges. Additional engineering services included drainage design, pavement marking, and signage.
- TYLin’s design of AASHTO beam bridge substructure comprised hammer head piers on drilled shaft foundations.
