Environmental Planning

Environmental planning is foundational to equity, public health, and sustainable development.

Our world faces unprecedented opportunities and challenges. Urban centers are experiencing growth that requires substantial investment in housing and infrastructure. Scaling up deployment of renewable energy requires installation of new transmission lines that traverse population centers and sensitive natural areas. Adapting to sea-level rise requires coastal barriers along sensitive habitat or cherished waterfront spaces.

Critical to successful implementation of development of such magnitude is support by communities hosting the new infrastructure, which is rooted in assurance that the existing population will not experience displacement, a decline in public health because of noise or air pollution, a decline in quality of life, or loss of critical habitat. The environmental review process provides a comprehensive “hard look” at environmental and socioeconomic consequences of such projects, based on credible technical analysis.

Our environmental practice provides the foundation for our industry-leading team of planners, scientists, and designers to deliver projects that are equitable, sustainable, and therefore, ultimately, implementable. Specific services include compliance with NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR, and CEQA; environmental permitting; feasibility studies; and air quality/odor/noise modeling. Our diverse experience ranges from linear infrastructure to buildings to neighborhood/city/region-scale projects. Our clients include public- and private-sector sponsors of capital projects, planning agencies, and institutions.
