Our Buildings Group provides full-service design capabilities, including architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) engineering, and building code compliance services. Additionally, we are augmented by an architectural visualization team as well as Latin American and Asian production and design centers, which leverage our national and international expertise for integrated, innovative, sustainable, and resilient solutions for our client's needs.

Rohit Aggarwal
Rohit Aggarwal, AIA, CDT
Architecture Group Leader

Rohit brings a unique blend of visionary design and superior project management to his role as Architectural Group Leader. His professional journey spans over two decades and includes serving as the founding Principal of an award-winning architecture practice within a multi-disciplinary engineering firm. Throughout his career Rohit has demonstrated a passion for crafting design solutions that seamlessly integrate creativity, sustainability, and functionality. Rohit’s proficiency extends to practical application of a range of architectural technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), algorithmic and parametric designs, acoustical and thermal analysis, and cutting-edge tools like point cloud technology. He is an ardent advocate for knowledge sharing and his affinity for learning and mentorship has driven him to develop effective teams that can provide uniquely tailored solutions to client needs. 

  • Nic Goldsmith

    Nic Goldsmith, FAIA LEED AP | Founding Director, Lightweight Structures Group

    Registered Architect: NY, NJ, IL, ID, FL, ME

    Nic specializes in specialist construction systems. Over the past forty years, Nic has used innovative structural elements to pioneer lightweight technologies as the Principal of FTL Design Engineering Studio. A graduate of Cornell University, his work has been greatly influenced by Bucky Fuller, Felix Candela and Pritzker Prize winning Frei Otto with whom he apprenticed in Germany for three years. His projects include the ASU SkySong at the Scottsdale campus AZ using tensile structures as infrastructure, the Sun Valley Pavilion ID using a wood cable net roof, the Empire City Casino in Yonkers NY using an ETFE clad grid shell, and the Rosa Parks Transit Center in Detroit MI as an intermodal hub. Nic has taught emerging technology studios at the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, Columbia and Pratt Institute. He has authored articles and books on the subject, including his latest book, Mass to Membrane, published in 2018.

    Brent is an architectural leader committed to effective collaboration and purposeful design to achieve superior built environments.  With two decades of professional architectural and engineering experience, Brent’s unique perspective drives his approach to project challenges and facilitates integrated and visionary solutions. Throughout his career, Brent has built a knowledge base over a wide range of project types while gaining expertise in complex industrial facilities, municipal buildings, sustainable design, and resilient building systems. Leaning on his project experience and collaboration with project stakeholders, Brent leads teams to successfully transition client’s needs into effective solutions that achieve the project goals.

    Sergio Sierra, AIA, NCARB, LEED Green Associate | Senior Architect

    Registered Architect: D.C., FL, IL, IN, MI, KY, NV, NY, OH, WI, & Republic of Columbia S.A 

    Sergio’s experience spans a variety of building types, ranging from residential, commercial, and education projects to high rise office and condominium buildings in his native Colombia. Sergio has proven success in providing imaginative and unique solutions to challenging problems providing creative designs that address technical requirements, site conditions, budget limitations and client’s expectations with an adherence to project schedule and budget.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters, AIA, ENV SP, LEED Green Associate | Architect

    Registered Architect: IL

    Jonathan has experience leading and managing the design of several wide-ranging projects. He has advanced knowledge in Revit modeling technics and BIM project management and expertise in sustainable design. Throughout Jonathan’s career, he led many projects through various phases including condition assessment, master planning, design, and office services during construction.

  • John Schmidt

    John Schmidt, AIA, ENV SP | Architect

    Registered Architect: IL

    John’ s career has seen a special focus on sustainable design for projects across the nation.  He is an expert in utilizing industry design programs such as AutoCAD Architecture, REVIT, NavisWorks, 3ds Max Design, and SketchUp. In addition to water and wastewater facilities, his experience includes designing new laboratories, administration offices, and maintenance facilities. He is also a leader in the application of BIM technology and a wide range of visualization software.

  • KASHFI KALAM

    Kashfi Kalam, CSI, CDT, LEED GA | Facility Design Manager

    Kashfi brings expertise in transportation architecture, sustainability, interior design, and environmental design to our team. With a strong background in collaborating with public agencies, she has played a pivotal role as a facility design lead for our Rail & Transit operations and maintenance facility expansions, battery electric bus facility projects, and facility assessments for transitioning to zero-emission fleet facilities. Her responsibilities have encompassed programming, schematic and conceptual design, master planning, specification, industrial equipment layout, and construction documentation, in addition to overseeing construction administration.
