T.Y. Lin International China Wins 11th Annual Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize for Jiayue Jialing River Bridge

T. Y. Lin International Group (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that its China operations have been awarded the 11th Annual Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize for the firm’s design of the Jiayue Jialing River Bridge in Chongqing, China. The award is the highest honor bestowed in China for technological innovation in design and construction engineering. TYLI China accepted the prestigious award from the China Civil Engineering Society (CCES) at a July 8th award ceremony in Beijing.

The Jiayue Jialing River Bridge is a signature “Y-shaped,” partially cable-supported girder bridge with a main span of 820 feet. The uniquely aesthetic and economically constructed crossing features six lanes of traffic on its upper deck and two pedestrian/bicycle paths beneath the roadway wing slab. The structure was part of China’s Chongqing Expressway Project, for which TYLI China provided design services for the bridge, a nine-mile expressway, nine interchange bridges, and three road tunnels.

This is the third Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize awarded to TYLI China for its engineering design expertise. In 2009, the firm received awards for two of Chongqing’s most innovatively designed and important bridges, the Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge and the Shibanpo Yangtze River Bridge. The Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge is one of the longest transit tied-arch bridges for dual highway and rail traffic in the world, and the first rigid frame and tied arch combination bridge ever constructed. TYLI’s design for the two-level, 3620-ft. long Shibanpo Yangtze River Bridge, which connects two of Chongqing’s busiest districts, resulted in the longest box girder crossing in the world.

Founded in 1999, the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize is awarded to infrastructure firms whose projects demonstrate the highest level of achievement in technological innovation and application, planning, construction, and project management. The award program also plays a leading role in stimulating technological creativity, progress and growth in the field of civil engineering in China while also raising levels of project quality and safety.
