T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) provided Structure Representative services for the reconfiguration and upgrade of the Interstate 215/Newport Road Interchange for the rapidly growing City of Menifee, California.
Newport Road is a primary arterial providing access to local businesses and interstate commuters. The existing tight diamond interchange was reconstructed into a partial cloverleaf. One existing overcrossing was widened. A second overcrossing was replaced by a new 285-foot-long by 132-foot-wide bridge carrying eight traffic lanes, as well as bike lanes, a sidewalk, and a center median.
In addition to the Newport Road Overcrossing, other structural elements of this project include widening the Salt Creek Bridge and adding 2,000 feet of 4-foot by 8-foot concrete box girder drainage and three different Type 1 retaining walls.
- Staged bridge construction incorporated several traffic configurations to minimize traffic impacts.
- Additional services included constructability review and project closeout reporting.
- All inspections and documentation conformed with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) standards and procedures.
