In support a contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Louisville District, T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) provided a Customer Concept Document (CCD) and full construction document development for the 442nd Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS) Facility at Whiteman Air Force Base in Whiteman, Missouri. The project was completed for the U.S. Air Force under an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for Architecture/Engineering (A/E) design support services to the USACE, Louisville District.

The LRS Facility provides critical mobility and training equipment storage for the 442nd Wing staff, as well as administration office and training spaces, climate-controlled storage, loading dock function, and communications capabilities.

The project included all disciplines, including architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and fire protection engineering. Key elements include architectural programming, charrette and presentation, building envelope and roofing systems, interior and exterior features and finishes, acoustics, coordination with equipment, site analysis and demolition, storm drainage systems, earthwork, roads and parking design, AT/FP requirements, foundation design, heating and cooling design, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) controls design, electrical distribution, lighting design, telecommunications and data design, and fire suppression and protection systems design.

Project Highlights:

  • The project team conducted an onsite design charrette, meeting with the client, users, base staff, and other affected government representatives, which was then developed into the CCD and working drawings.
  • TYLI successfully provided a sustainable design for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Certified, energy-efficient facility that complies with U.S. Air Force regulations of antiterrorism force protection, seismic design, and energy conservation.
