T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), as managing partner in a joint venture, provided Consultant Construction Management (CCM) Services to New York City Transit (NYCT) for the Joralemon Tube Rehabilitation. The project is located between Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York City and serves subway lines 4 and 5, which were damaged by the tidal surge during Superstorm Sandy. The team provided services during the pre-construction, construction, and close-out phases of the project.
Project scope comprised repairs to facilities, including fan plants, circuit breaker houses, substations, pump houses, and rehabilitation work along the 7,000-foot length of the Joralemon Tunnel. Resiliency measures, such as waterproof grouting, flood-proof doors, and protective coatings, were also incorporated.
The CCM team performed constructability reviews; provided cost-saving design solutions; reviewed the sequencing, staging and phasing requirements; and provided safety inspections during construction.
Project Highlights:
- TYLI assisted NYCT in organizing overnight and weekend General Orders (GOs) shutdowns for inspections.
- TYLI reviewed the contractors’ baseline schedule and updated the monthly critical path method (CPM) schedule.
