The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) is the regional transportation agency for San Diego County, California, and represents the eighteen local cities, the County, local transit operators, and other key stakeholders. SANDAG takes the lead in funding, planning, designing, and constructing many of the key transportation capital projects in the region. T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) is serving as the prime consultant on a $25M on-call contract with SANDAG for engineering, environmental, and project development services for various projects in the TransNet ½-cent sales tax program.
- Passenger rail improvements planning and design
- Highway/structures design
- Freeway-to-freeway interchange planning and environmental clearance
- Light rail program management
- Bike path planning and design
Sample task orders include:
Poinsettia Coaster Station Run-Through Track, Carlsbad, California
This project will construct a pedestrian grade separation at the Poinsettia Station of the Coaster, a passenger rail system operated by North County Transit District. One or both of the existing tracks will be shifted to accommodate an inter-track fence for safety. TYLI is providing preliminary engineering, environmental clearance, and final design services at this environmentally sensitive site.
I-805/HOV Carroll Canyon Extension, San Diego, California
TYLI worked directly under Caltrans to provide final PS&E for two bridge structures and seven retaining walls for a $70M local street extension and new connection to the I-805 freeway.
Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project PMC, San Diego, California
TYLI is undertaking a Project Management Consultant (PMC) assignment on this 11-mile long, $1.5B extension of the San Diego Trolley (light rail) system. The project involves eight stations, four freeway crossings, a major river crossing, and connections to regionally significant locations such as the Old Town Transit Center, UCSD, and a large shopping center in the University City area. TYLI’s team will serve as an extension of SANDAG staff, helping to oversee the design and environmental clearance work.
SR-94/SR-125 Interchange, Spring Valley, California
TYLI is developing a Project Report and Environmental Document for construction of a missing connector from southbound SR-125 to eastbound SR-94. Three alternatives are being considered including a flyover ramp, an undercrossing, and various options for interfacing with the adjacent local street interchange, including a possible braided ramp configuration.
Plaza Bonita Bike Path, National City, California
TYLI is performing environmental and engineering services for the permitting and design of a Class I bikeway facility along Plaza Bonita Road. Detailed drainage design was required, as well as extensive coordination due to nearby utility facilities. Additionally, the design of a pedestrian refuge crossing was incorporated in coordination with National City.
