T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) served as a subconsultant for the security-related systems design upgrade for Throgs Neck Bridge, which crosses the East River and connects the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bay Terrace section of Queens in New York City.
TYLI’s scope of work included providing both design and construction support services for the bridge anchorages, the towers' perimeter doors and hatches, the underside of the suspended spans, the fenders, and the tower pedestals. Also included under TYLI’s design services were a computer-based, closed-circuit television surveillance system, intruder alarms, and a digital video recording and proximity card access system, as well as fiber optic and power cabling to support the new installations.
- TYLI provided a critical “bridge engineering” viewpoint and understanding of the structure and its critical areas.
- Design services included reviewing and assessing bridge vulnerabilities.
- TYLI was responsible for the design of the connections.
- TYLI surveyed existing conditions at planned sensor installations and developed CAD drawings for sensor placement on the bridge.
