Harlem Hospital

TYLin provided structural engineering expertise for the new patient pavilion building for the Harlem Hospital Center in New York, New York.

Part of a larger expansion and modernization project, the six-story, steel-framed pavilion and adjacent atrium creates an efficient healthcare campus by unifying two previously disconnected structures that are spread over two city blocks.

The building accommodates the hospital’s emergency department, operating rooms, diagnostic and treatment facilities, radiology, and critical care beds.

To accommodate future expansion, the building has been designed to support two additional floors above the rooftop mechanical penthouse.

Project Highlights:

  • With a focus on patient-centered care, the pavilion integrates inpatient beds, outpatient care, and emergency services under one roof.
  • Sustainable design features include a high-performance curtain wall with a mural design by Kenneth Drucker.
  • The project created a new front door to the hospital along Lenox Avenue.
