Metra Hubbard Woods Station

TYLin completed a comprehensive facility assessment and designed improvements to rehabilitate Metra’s Hubbard Woods Station in Winnetka, Illinois.

In assessing and updating this commuter rail station, TYLin provided architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and surveying services. The renovation increased the station’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility and provided passenger amenities for an improved rider experience.

TYLin designed the replacement of platforms, stairs, and a pedestrian bridge. New warming shelters at the track level provide shelter for commuters. Additional upgrades were made to windows, doors, and finishes.

ADA accessibility improvements include a new elevator from the pedestrian bridge to the platform level. The driveway and sidewalks surrounding the station were also reconfigured to ensure the station is accessible to riders of all abilities. The station interior was adapted to meet ADA requirements and create vendor space.

Project Highlights:

  • The new pedestrian bridge over Union Pacific Railroad tracks includes an ADA ramp at the east end.
  • The replacement platforms include elevator and stair access to conform to ADA requirements.
  • The station interior designs created an open concept, provided utility rough for potential vendors, and revamped toilet rooms for ADA accessibility.
  • The stairs to the Scott Street Bridge at the north end of the platform were replaced.
  • TYLin also provided specifications, quantities, and cost estimating.
