Silman Structural Solutions
In our everchanging world, we are more connected than ever, and the social responsibility on those who shape the built environment is immense. The built environment should be responsible, but it should also be bold. It should inspire and it should unite.
Our holistic, human approach to placemaking means integrated, comprehensive building solutions that champion our client’s vision and make the world a better, more equitable place. We are experienced industry experts and committed collaborators across the globe creating beautiful, functional, and safe buildings that also happen to be smart, connected, and built with future generations in mind.
We take our impact on everyday life seriously – which makes our work all the more fun; fun that generates creativity; creativity that leads to great design; and great design that brings joy with meaning.
We are engineers, fascinated by the power of architecture to connect people, places, and ideas.

Become a Silman Fellow for Preservation Engineering
The National Trust for Historic Preservation invites applications for the 2024-2025 Silman Fellow for Preservation Engineering. This 12-month fellowship provides a recent graduate with the opportunity to work on various restoration, rehabilitation, and preservation projects at the Trust’s 27 sites nationwide and work at TYLin’s Silman Structural Solutions practice as a structural engineer.
Expertise
New buildings ranging from schools and museums to government facilities and hospitals account for about half of our active projects. With our experience and dedication, we bring ambitious architectural visions to life with structural solutions that balance innovation and pragmatism.
Renovation and adaptive reuse projects benefit from our familiarity with a range of scope areas and considerations: they may involve structural framing modifications, seismic or lateral retrofits, the cost-effective integration of upgraded infrastructure, and multiple agency approval processes. Our engineers ensure that other members of the design team are fully apprised of the existing structure and its capabilities, initiating these conversations early in the design process to fully leverage the strengths and opportunities of existing systems.
A portfolio with over 400 registered landmark buildings means invaluable expertise related to the restoration and preservation of historic structures. Our engineers can quickly identify suitable technologies for unique challenges, the limitations and strengths of historic construction methods, and best strategies for creating complementary new structural systems.
