Access Tunnels to Port of Savona
TYLin provided tunnel expertise as part of the Variante SS1 Aurelia project near Savona, Italy.
The Variante SS1 Aurelia is a new access roadway to the Port of Savona in the Savona–Albisola Superiore section in the Province of Savona. The access road is a crucial feature in the broad plan to improve the whole transport system of the Liguria Region, located in the Maritime Alps. The road variant is configured as a tangential axis to the City of Savona for approximately 5.1 kilometers. Three single-tube tunnels of approximatunetely 13.7 meters of bored diameter had to be excavated. The excavation cut through ground formations of gneiss, granite, quartzite, and amphibolites and required a hard-rock Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
TYLin provided operation assistance on-site to analyze the TBM excavation parameters and sensitive tunnel sections to improve excavation performance. We provided technical expertise for TBM modifications and defined a new method statement for TBM excavation, including rock mass response measures.
