MIA North Terminal

TYLin provided design and construction administration services for the airside portion of the USD 3 billion North Terminal Development Program at Miami International Airport in Miami, Florida.

Increasing traveler convenience, the North Terminal is a 50-contact gate facility and serves as the Latin American and Caribbean hub for American Airlines and American Eagle.

TYLin’s services included planning, design, construction administration, and construction inspection for the new concrete apron and asphalt taxi lanes, passenger loading bridges, hydrant fueling, primary utility corridors (water, sewer, fire protection, electric, and communications), stormwater management systems, contamination cleanup, airfield lighting, and pavement markings.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • TYLin developed the complete Project Packaging Plan and oversaw Environmental Compliance Monitoring.
  • TYLin’s designs included the new aircraft parking apron, terminal fueling system, pre-conditioned air (PAC) system, and 400 Hz aviation power system.
  • Airside work was divided into ten separate construction packages.
  • Construction was phased to support the overall development program while maintaining airline operations immediately adjacent to the construction.
  • TYLin reconfigured existing terminal areas and parking aprons to complete work during American Airlines’ ongoing hub operations.
  • Reconfiguration of the terminals and parking aprons required the detailed maintenance of traffic and safety plans in close cooperation with airport and airlines operations staff.
