T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announced today that the Hoover Dam Bypass project was named the winner of the International Road Federation (IRF) 2012 Global Road Achievement Award (GRAA) for Design. TYLI engineers led the design of the landmark Colorado River span, which is the centerpiece of the overall highway bypass project. The prestigious design award recognizes “outstanding achievements in the broad design arena, including aesthetics, applications in challenging environments, cost efficiency and originality.”

The full "Hoover Support Team" – a consortium of HDR, Jacobs Engineering (formerly Sverdrup) and TYLI – was selected by the Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in consultation with the Arizona and Nevada Departments of Transportation, to provide design and construction support services for the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. The Hoover Dam Bypass Project includes the signature 1,900-foot-long Colorado River Bridge, with 1.2 miles of approach roadway in Arizona and 2.3 miles of roadway in Nevada. The bridge, designed by TYLI, is the highest and longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. Ranking as the second-highest bridge of any kind in the United States, it also features the tallest concrete segmental columns of any bridge in the world.

The Hoover Support Team accepted the award on January 15, 2013 at IRF’s Annual Awards Luncheon in Washington, D.C. Over 200 high-level government officials, top executives, and other road industry professionals gathered to celebrate the accomplishments and successes of the road industry.
