Melvyn Green
Mr. Green holds registration as a structural, civil and fire protection engineer in California. He is also licensed in Nevada, and Arizona. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona.
Experience:
2022- Present – Senior Preservation staff at Silman/T Y. Lin. Work includes analysis of preservation options and structural review of buildings and other structures.
1972 thru 2022 he was President of Melvyn Green & Associates an engineering and architectural preservation firm specializing in historic and other existing buildings as well as building code development research. Projects include earthquake strengthening and restoration of the San Gabriel Mission, Mission San Jose and Mission San Diego. He is the engineer for the repair of Frank Lloyd Wight’s Hollyhock and Ennis houses. Recent work for the National Park Service includes consulting on structures in Yosemite and Channel Islands National Parks as well as the Kiva structure in Bandelier National Monument. He is a specialist in adobe buildings and earthen construction.
Building code work includes the preparation of the Uniform Code for Building Conservation and the International Existing Building Code. He has been a consultant to several states including Maryland, New York, and Rhode Island. Recent international work includes support for the governments of India, Bhutan, Pakistan and Morocco.
Mr. Green was a Professor at Goucher College where he taught material evaluation and conservation. He was an instructor at the University of Arizona teaching the Timber and Masonry design course.
