Bridges to Prosperity 2024

Meet the Incredible Team for the 2024 Bridge Build!

Meet the Incredible Team for the 2024 Bridge Build!

Meet our team of 10 volunteers from TYLin, Dar, and Introba who are embarking on a life-changing journey to Rwanda to construct the Muregeya Trail Bridge over the Muregeya River.

Their mission? To build a bridge that will connect over 2,500 residents to essential resources like schools, markets, and healthcare facilities, all of which are currently inaccessible during the dangerous monsoon season. This bridge is a lifeline for the Rubengera community, transforming missed opportunities into a brighter future. In the upcoming weeks, we'll introduce you to the volunteers and share their experiences as they work side-by-side with local community members to bring this vital project to fruition.

Mary Anne is a Project Manager at Introba with 16 years of experience in the design and construction industry. Her diverse background spans mechanical design, energy engineering, facilities management, and technology industries, complemented by a Master of Science in Building Construction Management from Purdue University. She is eager to return to Africa and contribute to a new community.

“I’m looking forward to connecting with the local community, learning about their culture, and working alongside them knowing that the bridge we are building together will improve their daily lives for years to come. Giving back to the world is important to me, and this opportunity is a rare combination of my professional expertise with my excitement for helping others so I’m extremely grateful to be a part of this project. Professionally, I am already learning so much working with an international team to plan this build, it’s been so amazing connecting with different parts of our larger organization and seeing the expertise we have across the globe. I have been so impressed with our team already and we haven’t arrived onsite yet, so I can’t wait to see what we can do in person together.”

Nicolette
Nikolette Mazzuola, Engineer | TYLin | San Diego, CA
Logistics Lead

Nikolette Mazzuola is an Assistant Transportation Engineer with nearly four years of experience at TYLin, focusing on highway and local road design. Since graduating from San Diego State University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, she has contributed to two major highway design-build projects and worked on teams across the Southwest and Pacific Northwest. Nikolette is actively involved in STEM outreach and volunteers in her local engineering community and church. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities and is currently training for the Chicago Marathon.

“I am looking forward to teaming up with complete strangers to provide a service to a community who we have no prior relationship with. I think this will be such a sweet time to love people and communities. It will be such a joy to be present with these people and know there is no greater fulfillment a tangible item could bring that this experience will. I think we often can get wrapped up in ourselves and our needs and not pay attention to the big picture. I see life as a great gift and when we do it alone and not in community, we miss a lot of joy that life offers. Being a part of this BUILD means we make sacrifices for others and not focus on the day-to-day struggles we let consume us. I think there is a lot of value and growth that will come from being displaced and removed from our comfortable daily lives. This BUILD will show us the value of people and partnership over self and the necessity for community, something we often overlook when we seek to get ahead personally and professionally on our own.”

I am most excited for the children of the community to have uninterrupted access to education. Empowering young minds with access to education, in my opinion, is one of the greatest and most rewarding acts of service as it paves the path to a better future.
