With close to 50 years of design and construction engineering experience, Dr. Tang is globally recognized for his contributions to the bridge design industry. He has designed over 100 major bridges around the world, which gave rise to the saying, “the sun never sets on a Dr. Tang bridge.”

He also designed the new Twin River Bridge in Chongqing, which comprises two multimodal structures that represent a relatively new concept for the industry, the partially cable-supported girder bridge.
Dr. Tang was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1995 for his contributions to the advancement of cable-stayed bridges. In 2000, he was elected as a Foreign Member to the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the highest honorary and advisory organization for engineering and technology in China. He has also been awarded honorary doctorates in engineering, architecture, and literature and is an Honorary Professor of 13 universities.
