Dublin Link Wins 2022 ASHE National Project of the Year Award
TYLin, a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that the Dublin Link in Dublin, Ohio, has been named 2022 National Project of the Year (Over USD 20 million category) by the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE). TYLin served as Prime Consultant for the final design of the bridge, which is a critical transportation link for pedestrian and bicyclists over the Scioto River.
TYLin worked closely with the City of Dublin and the architect, Endrestudio of Emeryville, California, to develop the innovative concept for the Dublin Link. At 760 feet long, the visually dramatic bridge features a sinuous "S" curve alignment, with a steel superstructure that passes through the "eye" of the concrete pylon tower without any vertical support. The deck is a steel box girder with an asymmetric "V" form, which changes shape as users cross while maintaining a 14-foot clear deck width from end to end.
The 176-foot-tall pylon is the focal point of the landmark bridge, measuring 110 feet tall from the walking surface to the top of the tower. The bridge has one main suspension cable, with a single plane of hanger cables attached along only the inside edge of the curved bridge deck. Dynamic programmable lighting allows the color scheme of the crossing to display different themes at night.
After completing the final design, TYLin developed the project schedule, produced a plans, specifications, and estimates package, and solicited bids. The firm worked with numerous structural, civil, and electrical engineering firms based primarily in Ohio to maintain local consultant participation. A construction manager-general contractor delivery method was selected by the City of Dublin for this project - a first in Ohio.
"We thank the American Society of Highway Engineers for honoring the Dublin Link as 2022 National Project of the Year," said Dan Fitzwilliam, PE, TYLin Senior Bridge Engineer. "The City of Dublin envisioned a signature bridge that would connect local communities and provide a safe, inviting experience for pedestrians and cyclists. TYLin is proud to have helped make that vision a reality.”
