I-10 Cherry Ave

TYLin served as Prime Consultant for the reconstruction of the Cherry Avenue and Citrus Avenue Interchanges on I-10 in Fontana, California.

To reduce heavy traffic congestion, TYLin designed new westbound loop on-ramps and widened and realigned other ramps for both interchanges. Four overcrossing structures were replaced with wider, longer bridges. This project was completed for the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.

Working in conjunction with the Landscape Architecture Branch of California Department of Transportation District 8, TYLin also developed unique aesthetic concepts for the bridges.

The mainline tracks for Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) are adjacent to the I-10 freeway, resulting in the design of overhead bridges at both interchanges. TYLin worked closely with UPRR and the Public Utilities Commission to process the project.

Services included preparing final plans, specifications, and estimates and providing construction support.

Project Highlights:

  • To meet strict deadlines, TYLin accelerated the evaluation of right-of-way requirements and began preparation of design at-risk.
  • Close coordination was required with an auxiliary lane project between the interchanges.
  • TYLin's aesthetic bridge treatments became the prototype along the I-10 Corridor.
