Matthew G. Cummings, P.E., M.ASCE, T.Y. Lin International Group President and CEO, Honored with 2019 ASCE John I. Parcel-Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) Group, a globally recognized, full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Matthew (Matt) G. Cummings, P.E., M.ASCE, TYLI Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), was selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to receive the 2019 John I. Parcel-Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award. Cummings accepted the award at the ASCE 2019 Annual Convention on October 12, 2019, in Miami, Florida.

“I am grateful to receive the 2019 John I. Parcel-Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award from ASCE,” said Cummings. “It is my honor to be a member of ASCE and to serve this noble profession. As leaders in civil engineering, we design and build infrastructure around the world that improves lives and drives local economies. I see that as an immense privilege as well as a great responsibility.”

The selection committee recognized Cummings “for his definitive contribution to the field of civil engineering management evidenced by exemplary character, professional integrity, and national reputation.”

Cummings has over 30 years of comprehensive experience in operational leadership and project management in the engineering field. In April 2019, he was named President and CEO of TYLI Group, where he oversees the vision, operations, and market growth of TYLI Group and its affiliate firms. He also serves as CEO of the Global Infrastructure Pillar of Dar Group, the parent company of TYLI Group. Before joining TYLI Group, he led a $2 billion transportation infrastructure business at a global engineering and construction firm.

At this year’s ASCE Annual Convention, Cummings participated on a panel of successful leaders in the civil engineering profession for the session, “Leadership Today: Building Your Path and Brand.” Cummings shared stories of his career path and professional development, focusing on what it takes to become an ethical leader in today’s world, mentorship, and the leadership traits that are needed to succeed.

Cummings has also held important industry leadership positions, including as past Chairman of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA). He received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and completed the Wharton Management Program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
