As managing partner in a joint venture, TYLin provided Consultant Construction Management (CCM) services for the Rehabilitation of the Cranberry Tunnel In New York, New York.
Located between Manhattan and Brooklyn and serving the A and C subways, the Cranberry Tunnel was damaged by the tidal surge during Superstorm Sandy. TYLin’s services included overseeing the constructability review, pre-construction, construction, and close-out phases of the project for New York City Transit (NYCT).
Rehabilitation work included facilities such as fan plants, circuit breaker houses, electrical substations, and pump houses. Repairs were needed for walls, roofs, and other structural components, and electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment damaged by saltwater during flooding. Resiliency products were also installed, including flood-proof doors, waterproof caulking, and protective coatings.
The project also encompassed the rehabilitation of the structure and components of the 7,117-foot Cranberry Tunnel, including walls, tracks, electrical equipment, third rail, switches, duct banks, and communications equipment and cables.
- The CCM team performed constructability reviews, provided design solutions, reviewed sequencing, staging and phasing requirements, and performed safety inspections during construction.
- The constructability review saved NYCT more than USD 1 million.
- TYLin assisted NYCT in organizing overnight and weekend General Orders (GOs) shutdowns for inspections.
