Ryan Lau, P.E., Wins 2018 OCEC Outstanding Young Engineer Award
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized, full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Ryan Lau, P.E., TYLI Senior Transportation Engineer, received the 2018 Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the Orange County Engineering Council (OCEC) in Orange County, California. Winners of the OCEC Outstanding Young Engineer Award must have less than 10 years of experience in any technical field and exhibit high potential in the engineering/scientific profession, with at least one significant engineering accomplishment during recent years.
Lau joined TYLI in 2014 and is based in the firm’s office in Irvine, California. He has distinguished himself in the Orange County transportation industry by rising to the rank of Senior Transportation Engineer while functioning as Technical Manager on multiple, complex surface transportation projects throughout the region. These include the Interstate 215/Placentia Avenue Interchange in Perris; the State Route 57 Widening project in Anaheim; and the Interstate 5 High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lanes Widening Improvement project, from State Route 55 to State Route 57. For the Interstate 5 HOV Widening project, Lau’s development of a single design refinement saved over 10% of the total project construction cost while meeting all project milestone due dates.
“Along with his professionalism and project leadership skills, Ryan also takes an interest in developing young engineers and gives back to the transportation community through his mentoring activities. He is a rising star in our industry, based on his strong work ethic, self-motivation, accountability to others, and his ability to keep the big picture in mind when completing projects or tasks,” said Karen Chapman, P.E., TYLI Associate Vice President and Transportation Services Manager for the Orange County market.
A registered Professional Engineer in California, Lau received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from San Diego State University, and a Master of Science in both Urban and Regional Planning and Civil Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.
