Dr. Man-Chung Honored with Achievement Award from China Steel Construction Society

Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Man-Chung Tang, Dr-Ing, Dr-Ing-eh, D.Litt, P.E., Hon MASCE, TYLI Chairman of the Board (China), was recently honored with the Highest Achievement Award from the China Steel Construction Society. Dr. Tang received the award in recognition of his outstanding achievement in promoting the development of the steel construction industry. The award was presented at the 2020 China Steel Construction Conference and Shanxi Province Steel Structure Forum in Taiyuan.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Tang has greatly improved the quality of domestic bridges, especially steel bridges, contributing to the design and scientific research of numerous representative steel bridge structures. He is especially considered a world leader in the design of cable-stayed and segmental bridges.

To date, Dr. Tang has designed more than 100 major bridges in 15 countries and on every inhabited continent in the world. This has earned him the industry saying: "The sun never sets on a Man-Chung Tang bridge."

Dr. Tang's noteworthy steel bridges projects include the Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge, the Twin River Bridge, and the Shibanpo Yangtze River Bridge in Chongqing, China, the Dagu Bridge in Tianjin, China, the Alex Frasier Bridge in British Columbia, Canada, and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge New East Span in Oakland, California, USA.

Dr. Tang has also been recognized worldwide for his immeasurable contributions to the bridge design industry. In 1998, he received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) John A. Roebling Medal for "major contributions to the technology for the design and construction of complex and long-span bridge structures worldwide." In 1999, he was rated as "One of Top 125 Contributors in Construction Engineering in the Past 125 Years" by Engineering News-Record, the authoritative journal of the construction engineering field.

In 2010, Dr. Tang received the ASCE Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award for "lifetime achievement in the design of civil engineering structures." That same year, the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) honored him with the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering for outstanding contributions in the field of structural engineering, with special reference to "usefulness for society."

An Honorary Professor of 13 universities, Dr. Tang has received honorary degrees of Doctor of Literature, Doctor of Engineering, and an honorary degree in Architecture. He was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1995, the highest honor for an engineer in the United States. In 2000, he was elected a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the highest-ranking title and lifelong honor an engineer can receive in China. He was also the 2008 recipient of the Friendship Award, which is China's highest award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social progress. Additionally, he was elected a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland's national academy of science and letters in 2018.
