Kevin Almer, PhD, PE, SE
Lead Bridge Engineer

Kevin’s extensive knowledge of concrete connections performance subjected to seismic loads formed the foundation of his doctoral research.

Kevin leads design engineering for concrete and steel long-span bridges, including cable-stayed design-build projects. Kevin’s experience includes providing construction engineering services in developing erection manuals as instructions for contractors to build major bridges.

For his doctoral research, he designed, constructed, and tested four, 40% scale bridge specimens using the University of Nevada Reno’s state-of-the art, large-scale shaking table seismic facilities to investigate precast girder connections to cast-in-place bent caps. Results of his research were used to develop design and detailing guidelines for the Nevada Department of Transportation.

He continues to contribute to the industry’s understanding of bridge design through regular presentations and webinars.
