P954 Flyover Bridge Bahrain

TYLin served as a third-party reviewer of construction submittals and provide engineering consultation for the erection and transport of the P954 Flyover Bridge in Bahrain.

Retained by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE), TYLin reviewed submittals, oversaw the status of bridge erection, performed onsite observations of the structure, and identified any potential engineering issues that could impact bridge transport.

The construction of the network tied-arch bridge was commissioned by the U.S. Navy in Bahrain. Using the rapid construction method, the entire bridge was built on falsework at an offsite facility about 250 meters away from its permanent location across a major highway.

Self-Propelled Modular Trailers or Transporters (SPMTs) were then used to move the 2,404-tonne flyover bridge into place. TYLin provided engineering support services for the overnight transport operation, which installed the bridge over the Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Highway.

The 122-meter-long P954 Flyover Bridge carries a two-lane roadway and a pedestrian walkway, with a 16-meter-wide bridge deck of post-tensioned concrete.

Project Highlights:

  • The rapid construction method reduced impacts on the traveling public while allowing complete bridge accessibility from all directions for the delivery and movement of equipment during construction.
  • The use of SPMTs accelerated construction operations and minimized traffic interruptions.
