Design of Ipiranga Monorail Station

TYLin was responsible for the development of the basic project and executive project for the Ipiranga Station on Line 15 of the monorail system of Metro to make the passenger connection compatible and feasible through the new Line 10 Ipiranga Station developed by CPTM.

Located in the municipality of São Paulo, Line 15 of the monorail system of the São Paulo Metro was initially 24.5 km long from the Vila Prudente Station, where it connects to Line 2 of the same Metro system, to the Hospital Cidade Tiradentes Station, serving 488,000 passengers a day. However, a technical study conducted by the São Paulo Underground detected a large concentration of passengers transferring between Lines 2 and 15 to get to Line 10 of the metropolitan train system CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos de São Paulo – commuter line): nearly 35,800 passengers from Line 15 to Line 2 and 3,700 passengers in the opposite direction during the morning rush hour.

For better user comfort, a 2.1 km extension was proposed to the Ipiranga Station on the Line 15 of the monorail system next to the Ipiranga Station on Line 10 of the CPTM for an integration between Line 15 and Line 10, making Metro monorail Line 15 a total of 26.6 km.

Project Highlights:

• The new Ipiranga Station of the São Paulo Metro has a total built surface area of 16,000 m² and an altitude of 30 m.
• The new station is distributed into five floors including technical rooms, a boarding and deboarding platform, and an intermediate level for user connection.
• The project was awarded to TYLin with the condition it be entirely developed in a BIM platform.
• The Basic Project was recognized with the BIM 1st Prize granted by the Brazilian Public Administration to Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo – METRÔ for the use of such an innovative design technology.
