ETFE systems have a carbon footprint around 80% lower than glass windows and weigh around 1% of a glass panel of similar size; they have long lifespans, and the energy and resources required for replacements are minimal. In adaptive reuse situations, the light weight of these roofs allows for the enclosure of open spaces without adding costly steel to existing buildings.
The Lightweight Structures Group at TYLin has employed this technology for more than twenty years for enclosed conditioned spaces, mid-door spaces, and outdoor canopies.
