Asheville I-26 Connector Support
TYLin provided transportation planning and traffic analysis to align the Interstate 26 (I-26) Connector project with new multimodal connections in Asheville, North Carolina.
We delivered technical support, analysis, and design mediation services to the City of Asheville to align the I-26 Connector project with the City’s goal of a vibrant, walkable downtown with new multimodal connections to the fast-growing neighborhoods of West Asheville.
The I-26 Connector is a long-planned project to fully connect I-26 around the edge of Downtown Asheville, taking interstate trips off local roads and creating possibilities for infill redevelopment, redesigning major thoroughfares as walkable complete streets, and creating an integrated network of trails connecting bicyclists to Downtown, the French Broad riverfront, and residential neighborhoods beyond. In close coordination with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, we facilitated dialogue between project stakeholders and proposed changes to the design of the highway ramps and adjacent streets.
