TYLin was part of the consultant team responsible for the engineering design and construction of the Automated People Mover (APM) System at Miami International Airport (MIA) in Florida.
The APM system includes two elevated stations and a 1.2-mile guideway structure that connects the Florida Department of Transportation’s Miami Intermodal Center (MIC)/Rental Car Facility to the airport's MIA Mover station. The MIC is a major transportation hub for highway, mass transit, and rail systems to MIA’s landside terminal pedestrian bridges and parking garage structures.
Services included the structural design of the guideway’s segmental construction, both the steel girders and the precast beams that connect to the MIC station.
TYLin also designed the interface for the traction power substation between the power supply and the direct current (DC) traction power systems for the trains.
The mechanical engineering design included the coordination of the existing MIA chilled water system with the new station demands and the coordination of plumbing and storm drainage from the new station with the existing MIA infrastructure.
TYLin’s electrical engineering design for the guideway system included utility coordination (power, communications, chilled water piping) and construction phasing site inspections.
