Bushwick Inlet Park
TYLin provided structural engineering services for a new public park on the west side of Williamsburg overlooking the East River.
Located in a former industrial area along the waterfront, the park has helped to revitalize the neighborhood and provide much-needed public green space.
The project includes a multi-purpose athletic field and a building for community facilities and park operations. The cast-in-place concrete building houses parking and maintenance spaces for municipal park vehicles, as well as department offices, multi-purpose spaces, and support spaces.
Gently sloping up from the park below, the building’s green roof serves as an extension of the athletic fields. Its top supports a glulam canopy with photo-voltaic solar panels that help to reduce power intake. The building’s concrete mix contains recycled materials (fly ash and blast-furnace slag) as replacements for cement. This project is LEED Platinum certified.
