TYLin provided structural engineering services for a new mixed-use building in the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District.
The building superstructure is cast-in-place concrete, which was selected for its structural economy and its ability to accommodate limited structural depth. At the upper residential stories, CMU and steel beams were utilized for lateral support.
The building’s 123 apartments, a mix of affordable and market-rate, provide housing for a wide cross-section of urban households. Amenities include a fitness center, yoga and meditation studio, and rooftop garden lounge. Setbacks provide multiple outdoor terraces for residents. The lower levels of the building include space for two nonprofits: the Center for Fiction and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
The property is designed to meet or exceed Enterprise Green Communities and LEED Gold criteria.
