Calafell Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Calafell wastewater treatment plant serves a population with significant seasonal variations. The plant operated below capacity during winter and above capacity in summer, facing challenges during peak season because of the treatment threshold.
Additionally, the facility showed general deterioration in certain equipment and civil works due to its age. For these reasons, it became necessary to expand and rehabilitate the EDAR.
The referenced project outlines the actions required to increase the plant's capacity from 15,239 m³/day to 18,573 m³/day (equivalent to 83,578 inhabitants) and to rehabilitate the facilities to maintain functionality until the target year of 2039. This also includes replacing equipment and installations that have reached the end of their useful life and updating the plant with modern technologies.
The project also involves the renovation and upgrade of the Cruz Roja pumping station, located 2.5 km from the treatment plant.
