Illinois Medical District Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Action Plan
TYLin was hired by the Illinois Medical District Commission to develop a bicycle and pedestrian safety action plan in response to the IMD’s move to ’24 hour activation’ with new businesses, residential development, and hotel properties.
The IMD wanted to support the growth in visitors with commensurate infrastructure investment. We worked with the four anchor hospitals and universities, nonprofit institutions, residents, staff, and students to highlight and address opportunities for safety enhancements within the IMD. The final deliverables included a living ‘toolbox’ document outlining opportunities for infrastructure improvements at every intersection in the IMD; a final plan deliverable outlining bicycle and pedestrian opportunities and five ‘transformative projects;’ and a video advertising the project to stakeholders.
