Michigan Central Station and Corktown Neighborhood Planning
TYLin led the mobility study for a major new corporate development in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, in and around the Michigan Central Station, a historic former main intercity passenger rail depot.
We explored current and potential future transportation conditions in the context of future mixed-use development in the station area and analyzed key transportation elements, including freight access at the regional and site levels, right-sizing parking in light of changing mobility technologies and transportation demand management programs.
The team developed street designs that improve walking, transit, bicycling, and curbside management while accommodating car traffic and explored opportunities to integrate emerging mobility technologies to support a strong, efficient, and sustainable neighborhood. The team also explored options for traffic network modifications to improve traffic flow while proving enhanced public space.
