The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) enlisted TYLin to assist the agency in the development of a comprehensive strategy.

The document refocused the agency and reoriented its operations around a new, cutting-edge vision and mission outlined by the mayor and transportation director. The effort was comprised of two elements: an internal “opportunity audit” of the agency and a public-facing action agenda.

For the opportunity audit, TYLin interviewed staff and partners to synthesize challenges and opportunities into specific recommendations for updating the agency’s organization, processes, resources, and culture in support of the new agenda. For the public-facing component, TYLin worked with Seattle DOT to translate their new vision and strategies into a visually-rich public action plan that educated the public and built support for their ambitious agenda.

The result of these efforts was a successful $1 billion funding levy approved by voters in November 2015, which is now funding safety improvements, expanding transit service, and transforming Seattle’s streets.
