Port of Miami - Government Cut Utilities Relocation

TYLin was responsible for the development of an Environmental Compliance Plan for the replacement of a 20-inch water main and 54-inch sewer force main beneath the Government Cut Channel near the Port of Miami in Florida.

The purpose of the project was to accommodate the new cargo shipping capacity anticipated with New Panamax vessels. The work was performed within the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve (Outstanding Florida Waters) to facilitate the dredging of the Government Cut Channel project (to minus 52 feet).

TYLI also provided environmental permitting support for drilling and tunneling activities, and coordinated and oversaw environmental-related issues, including permit compliance and reporting.

Project Highlights:

  • TYLin’s scope of work included training construction personnel on environmental awareness.
  • Monitoring of environmental compliance for water quality, protected species, and waste management was in accordance with approved United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) permits.
  • Environmental Coordination meetings were conducted monthly to review compliance with regulatory permits and requirements.
