ReImagine Ridge Road
TYLin Drives Transformation of Munster's Calumet Avenue and Ridge Road Corridors
TYLin has played a pivotal role in supporting the Town of Munster, Indiana, in revitalizing the Calumet Avenue and Ridge Road corridors since 2020. In the Calumet-Ridge Streetscape Plan, Our team conducted a comprehensive traffic engineering feasibility study, identifying opportunities for a road diet on Ridge Road. This recommendation aimed to repurpose the outer travel lanes for a multi-use path, on-street parking, sustainable landscape features, and pedestrian amenities such as wider sidewalks and seating. Additionally, we developed a robust toolbox of traffic calming measures to address potential increased traffic resulting from the establishment of a new commuter rail station and major changes along the study corridors. These measures were designed to deter cut-through traffic and reduce vehicle travel speeds, thus enhancing pedestrian safety and improving the overall urban environment.
Furthermore, TYLin led the preparation of an application for a USDOT Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant as part of the ReImagine Ridge Road initiative. This successful grant application secured $17 million in funding to implement improvements along the Ridge Road corridor. As part of a larger consultant team, our team is currently engaged in updating and refining the traffic engineering feasibility analyses conducted for the Streetscape Plan. This process involves finalizing recommendations for lane geometry, intersection control, curbside uses, pedestrian safety measures, and multimodal infrastructure along Ridge Road. Our expertise will inform the engineering plans for the study corridor, including signal design plans, with the ultimate goal of constructing the recommended improvements to enhance mobility, safety, environmental sustainability, and economic competitiveness in the area.
