Traffic Engineering Operations Oversight and Support for Port Commerce Facilities

The TYLin Port Commerce team is responsible for providing ongoing traffic engineering and operations support at all Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Marine Terminal facilities.
The Port of NY and NJ is the busiest port on the East Coast of the United States with a range of uses including container terminals, cruise terminals, rail yards, dry-docks, and warehouses. This breadth of transportation needs often comes with unique challenges and require innovative solutions. The project focuses on planning, design, and deployment of traditional traffic control and ITS devices on port roadways to support the dynamic operational needs of each facility.
At Port Newark and Elizabeth Marine Terminal, the team has developed enhanced safety solutions in high-crash locations using radar and dynamic driver feedback signs. At cruise terminals, the team designed “smart” geolinked parking lots and stanging areas and is working to implement active driveway warning signs for bicyclists at truck driveways. Other ITS-related tasks have included deployment and operation of automated traffic monitoring devices, VMS, DMS, and dynamic warning signs.
