TYLin Expands Adopt-A-School Program to Inspire Future STEM Leaders
TYLin announces the expansion of TYLin Blueprint, the company’s highly successful adopt-a-school program. TYLin Blueprint is designed to cultivate the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) leaders. Initiated in Chicago and New York City, the program also operates in San Diego, and TYLin plans to launch another program in Bellevue, Washington. With a unique and tailored curriculum developed by local TYLin engineers, the program has gained traction as an innovative approach to engaging students in active learning experiences.
At Chicago’s Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory Academy, TYLin delivers lunch and learn sessions that regularly attract 30-40 students. The program includes a two-week initiative where bridge engineers provide hands-on experiences in the classroom, including a lively bridge-building competition. During their junior and senior years, students can apply for a six-week internship in TYLin’s Chicago office to immerse themselves in each of the firm’s infrastructure sectors. The program continually evolves, with TYLin developing a tiered curriculum that ensures freshmen through seniors have customized learning experiences.
The NY Department of Education supports the New York program at Manhattan Bridges High School and offers students hourly wages to explore STEM concepts. Beginning with exploring the city’s historical buildings, students learn about architectural design, engineering challenges, innovative solutions, and how structures are modified over time to be modern and eco-friendly. The curriculum exposes students to floor plans, dead and live loads, beam and column design, construction materials, and cost estimating.
At James Madison High School in San Diego, TYLin engineers deliver focused STEM content and mentoring to students each month. TYLin professionals engage with students via presentations, activities, assignments, and site visits to establish meaningful connections and encourage careers in all types of civil engineering.
“Education and innovation are at the core of our values, and through TYLin Blueprint, we are excited to inspire and empower the next generation of STEM leaders,” said Joyce Barnes, Senior Construction Manager at TYLin. “We are thrilled to build strong connections with students, educators, and communities as we encourage a love for STEM that goes beyond the classroom and allows students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting.”
