T.Y. Lin International’s Karen Chapman, P.E., Receives 2020 Member of the Year Award from WTS Orange County Chapter

T.Y. Lin International (TYLI), a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that Karen Chapman, P.E., TYLI Vice President, Transportation Services Manager and Orange County Branch Manager, was honored with the 2020 Member of the Year Award from WTS Orange County Chapter (WTS-OC). Chapman accepted the award at the virtual WTS-OC Annual Awards Gala on December 17, 2020.

The annual WTS-OC Member of the Year Award acknowledges a WTS member who has made extraordinary contributions to the success of the organization, as well as its mission to advance women and transportation.

As an active member of WTS-OC for nearly 20 years, Chapman was recognized for her participation on the WTS-OC Board of Directors and her active involvement in WTS-OC programs. Her dedication to encouraging girls and young women regarding career opportunities in STEM fields like engineering is evidenced by her role as a mentor in the WTS-OC Mentoring Program and as Transportation You Chair, for which she is known for “taking Girls’ Engineering Day to new heights.” Chapman was also recognized for her dedication to local community organizations such as the Irvine Child Development Center and Habitat for Humanity.

Chapman joined TYLI in 2013 and has 27 years of experience in the industry, including two years with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). She has deep expertise in the design and management of a wide variety of Surface Transportation projects.

Among Chapman’s significant transportation projects in Southern California, she is currently Project Manager for the I-215/Placentia Avenue Interchange in Perris. The project is creating a new, tight diamond local interchange as the first phase of the Mid County Parkway, a proposed 16-mile east-west corridor in central Riverside County. She also served as Project Manager for the award-winning I-5 High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Improvements from State Route 55 to State Route 57 project in Orange County and the SR-178 Widening Project in Bakersfield.

A registered Professional Engineer in California, Chapman is also an active member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and Railway Association of Southern California. She received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
