T.Y. Lin International Appointed as Civil and Structural Engineer for Woodlands Integrated Healthcare Campus in Singapore

T.Y. Lin International, a globally recognized full-service infrastructure consulting firm, announces that its Singapore office, T.Y. Lin International Pte. Ltd. (TYLI), was recently appointed by the Ministry of Health Holdings Singapore as the Civil and Structural Engineer for the proposed Woodlands Integrated Healthcare Campus (WIHC).

Set to redefine healthcare delivery for Singapore by drawing on international best practices, the new campus was announced by National Development Minister, Khaw Boon Wan, in February 2014 and will open in phases starting in 2022. With up to 1,800 beds, WIHC will play a key role in caring for residents in northern Singapore through the provision of holistic healthcare services as the population grows and ages.

“Woodlands Integrated Healthcare Campus is a healthcare facility with an impressive vision. As the Civil and Structural Engineer on this immense project, T.Y. Lin International is delighted to be part of the team to deliver it,” said Teh Hee Seang, Chairman of TYLI’s Singapore operations. “Based on our extensive healthcare infrastructure experience, and with a clear focus on optimizing operational efficiency and end-user needs, our initial priorities will be stakeholder engagement and gaining an appreciation of their requirements.”

The WIHC development will include an acute care general hospital, a community hospital, and a nursing home. Occupying a site of over 19 acres along Woodlands Avenue 12, the campus will be easily accessible and well-connected, with quick access from the Seletar Expressway. It is also within walking distance of the Thomson East Coast Line Woodlands South Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station.

The goal of the TYLI design team is to support the sustainability target of Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum, and to respond to current and future needs of the campus through flexibility and scalability in terms of building design. This will allow the facility to cater to future advances in healthcare technology and equipment. In addition, TYLI is looking to optimize connectivity with the Woodlands South MRT station through the provision of an underground link to the station.

Dr. Tan Guan, Director of Building Structures and TYLI’s Project Director for the project, will lead the team in the delivery of TYLI services, which includes the civil and structural design for the structures as well as construction support during the delivery phase. This project adds further to TYLI’s track record in the successful delivery of state-of-the-art healthcare facilities in Singapore. The team recently completed two multi-award winning healthcare facilities, National University Hospital (NUH) Medical Centre and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital.
